Security Questions

How does the RollBak cover lock?

There is a spring loaded lock handle on the rear driver's side corner underneath the cover. When you completely close the cover, this spring loaded lock will automatically secure itself. Afterwards, you would simply close and lock your tailgate to fully secure your cargo.

How does the RollBak cover unlock?

You just gently pull and turn the spring loaded lock handle one-quarter of a turn and then use the pull strap to gradually retract the cover into the canister.

Do I need a separate key to open it?

Unlike our competitors, the RollBak locks under the rails of your truck. This means you don't have the hassle of an additional key to lock and unlock your cover. So, basically if your tailgate is locked, your cover is locked. Most newer trucks come with a factory installed tailgate lock, however if your truck does have one, we recommend you purchase a Pop and Lock tailgate lock.

Durabililty Questions

What is the canister made of?

The canister is made of 100% powder coated aluminum just like the rails and the cover itself. A while back we used ABS plastic for a storage compartment on top of our cansiters, but we no longer do this. It not only added additional height to the canister, but it made the cover appear as though it was poorly constructed. Our clients seemed to be more concerned with maintaining the low profile of their truck than having an additional storage compartment.

What is the cover made of?

100% powder coated aluminum. This goes for the entire cover. The rails, the canister, EVERYTHING!

What is the warranty?

The RollBak tonneau cover comes with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty against defects in material and workmanship. There is no fine print. It is highly unlikely that you'll have a problem with our cover. It is very, very durable and made from the toughest material around.

Be sure to mail in your warranty card within 14 days after you receive your cover. This activates your warranty.

How strong are the panels?

The panels that make up the cover portion of our RollBak are extremely durable. They can handle about 400 lbs of weight easily. They are 1.5" thick.

Can I stand on the cover?

Absolutely. We actually get this question a lot. One guy wanted to know whether or not our cover would support him and a few of his hunting dogs. Don't even ask. . . :-)

Water Resistance

What about water on the cover? Is this a problem?

No. The majority of the water on the RollBak with simply roll off, however the rest is channeled through our canister system.

Is it water resistant?

There is no tonneau cover in the world that is waterproof, however the RollBak cover is probably the most water resistant cover there is. It has been said by many clients that air can't even get inside. Should you wash your truck with the cover closed, run through and automatic car wash, or drive through a sudden downpour of rain, it is very likely that your bed will remain 100% dry.

How is this possible?

On either side of our cover there are channels or gutters that allow the water to run down into the canister. From there the water is expelled through drain tubes that run into your factory installed bed plugs. From there, the water ends up on the street. In other words, any water that doesn't simply roll off your cover will through the canister and out of your truck bed.

How much does this cover weigh?

The complete cover (rails and canister) weighs anywhere between 100 and 135 lbs. depending on which truck you have.

Does this cover make noise when I drive down the road?

This cover makes no noise whatsoever. When you're racing down the highway at 75 MPH, the RollBak will cruise silenty along with you.

Installation Questions

How easy is it to install?

This RollBak tonneau cover is very easy to install. It shouldn't take you more than 45 minutes to install the entire cover from start to finish. We actually make this very easy for you by providing an installation DVD with every shipment we send out.

Is there any drilling required for this cover to be installed?

Absolutely no drilling whatsoever, however you can use a drill to install the clamp on rails if you'd like. In other words, you don't have to put any holes in your bed. This applies to all applications.

Can I still use my bed extender with this cover?

This is a very difficult question to answer. Most of the time, the RollBak rails protrude enough to interfere with the rotation of the bed extender. But, the bed extender works flawlessly with the new F-150 trucks.

How easy is this cover to remove?

This is very easy to do and in fact, much quicker than installing it since there is nothing to adjust. You simply roll the cover completely back into its canister, unclamp and remove the side rails, and then remove the canister. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Can I keep my plastic factory rail caps or rail bars and still use this cover?

With the RollBak, you can keep your plastic rail caps or rail bars with no problem at all. This cover does not overlap your bed rails or cover your stake pockets the way many of our competitors' covers do. Also, we offer the ProCaps to complement your cover.

Can I use a camper with this cover?

You will need to remove the RollBak rails in order for this to work properly. This will ensure that no damage takes place.

How does the RollBak work with the Nissan Titan Utilitrack system?

The RollBak works with the Utilitrack system on the Titan. All you do is undo the 2 bolts that hold the utilitrack to the side of the truck bed. Then flip the track upside down and put the screws back in the same holes again. This just lowers the utilitrack by about an inch which is enough space for the RollBak clamps to fit perfectly under the rail.

This only takes 5 minutes to do.

Bedliner Questions

I have a bed liner sprayed over my bed rails. Is this a problem?

Spray in liners work fine with our tonneau cover. You simply install it the same way you normally would, but mount our rails against the liner instead of your bed sills.

I have a plastic bedliner. Is this okay?

1. If you have a plastic bed liner that is under the side rails, there is no problem at all. You will not need to make any modifications to your liner.

2. If you have a tailgate protector, there is no problem. The RollBak works fine with all tailgate protectors.

3. If you have an over the rail plastic bed liner, you will need to make some minor modifications to your bed liner in order for this cover to work properly. You will need to trim the over the rail portion of your bed liner to ensure that the RollBak clamping brackets can mount flush against the sills (inner rails) of your bed. This is very commonly done and helps to ensure a waster resistant fit. This applies to any tonneau cover and is not specific to the RollBak. You do not need to modify the tailgate or front rail (cab end) portion of your liner.

Since plastic liners are one piece, all you have to do is slide it out of your truck bed, and clamp a straight edge along the line where you intend to cut the liner. This should be right at or just below the rail. Then use a fine-toothed saw or razor knife (box cutter) (to follow along the straight-edge. You can sand down any rough edges later with some sand paper or a file.

Some plastic bed liners may interfere with the canister. If this is the case, which is very rare, all you have to do is trim the front edge of the liner (cab end) in order for your canister to be installed properly.

I have tailgate protector. Can I keep it?

Sure. This will not pose a problem for our cover because it will still roll up and stop flush against the tailgate protector.

RollBak Construction & Benefits

Will the RollBak cover improve my gas mileage?

Your gas mileage should improve between 7% and 10% on the highway, with the cover closed on the bed (except when towing). A university study shows substantial gas mileage improvement whenever the box of a pickup is covered. Input from customers and our own experience bear out the accuracy of this claim.

How large is the canister?

Our canisters are as small as 6.5 inches diameter, but the average size is 8.5 inches. This is actually the smallest canister in the industry for retractable tonneau covers. Most of our competitors have canisters 10" x 10" or greater. We want you to have as much access to your bed space as possible. That's why our engineers have gone the extra mile to ensure that our canister is as small as possible and made sure that it is elevated above your truck bed. This gives you an additional 1 foot of cargo space under the canister.

What exactly is the pull strap that comes with my RollBak?

This is a convenient piece we've added to make it easy for you to control the rate in which your cover retracts. It allows you to open and close your tonneau cover from any angle or either side without the cover jamming or sliding off track. The pull strap is attached underneath the cover at the back edge in the center.

Where does the pull strap go when the cover is closed?

Most people just lay it down in their truck bed. This is perfectly fine, however you can also secure it to the tie down hooks inside your bed. This is especially important when you drive with the RollBak open. You wouldn't want your pull strap flailing in the wind!

How easy is this cover to open and close? Could my grandmother do it if I sent her outside to grab my work boots and cooler?

Yes, she could with no problem at all. The RollBak is very easy to open and close. We've even added a convenient pull strap to assist you with this so you don't have to use the handle each and every time.

What are the "massive constant force springs" that the RollBak has?

Basically, the springs located at the core of the canister are always trying to retract the cover completly back into the canister. So, when you pull the cover towards the canister, the pressure of the springs are trying to pull it back into the canister. Our springs are guaranteed to retract 10,000 times. That means if you were to open your RollBak tonneau cover every single day, the spring would work perfectly forover 27 Years! Do you think you'll have your truck that long? That's why we say, our cover will outlast your truck!

If I release the spring loaded lock handle and let go of the cover without holding on to the strap, will the cover get damaged?

No. There is a bracing bar located at the front of the cover that runs the full width of your truck bed behind the canister. This is designed to protect the canister and keep pressure off of it at all times.

How does the intermittent locking work?

When your cover is completely open, this means you can close it and it will lock into position every 12 inches. This allows you to haul something like a washing machine and close your cover as close to the tailgate as possible to protect anything underneath it.

What does it mean when you say the cover is "low-profile?

This means the cover itself with not add any height to your bed. It is completely flush mount with the bed itself.

Can I paint my RollBak cover?

The RollBak cover is not designed to be painted.

What colors are available?

It is satin black and looks very stylish no matter what color your truck is.

Are there any pictures I can look at?

Sure, we have an extensive photo gallery for you to view here.

What does the Rollbak feel like?
